Let Love Rule

I.               Loving God is Connected to Loving Others
·      Matthew 5:43-45, Loving enemies is evidence that we are sons of our Father in heaven
·      Matthew 6:9-15, The Lord’s Prayer starts with Hallowing God’s name and leads us to forgiving others
·      Matthew 7:7-12, Asking, seeking, knocking, wraps up with the Golden Rule
II.              The Greatest Command
A.    Shema Y’srael (Deut 6:4-9) The basis of spiritual formation under the Old Covenant.  Loving God is demonstrated in following Torah, the mark of (old) covenant people.
B.    The Shema of Jesus – Loving God is demonstrated by following ______________ and _______________ others, the mark of (new) covenant people.
III.            Who is My Neighbor? (Luke 10:25-37)
IV.            Conclusion (1John 2:9-11)

  1. One cannot argue with Jesus’ words on love and forgiveness, that’s for sure. The parable of the Good Samaritan, in effect the answer to “Who is my neighbor?” is another example of Jesus’ words that simply leaves you speechless when you contemplate the larger meaning. Indeed, love in this context has little to do with feeling. Love in this sense, “agape” if you will, is an action, and we choose how that verb will be played out…. Thanks Bro. TA
